When 'Poatan' destroyed the myth and crowned himself middleweight king in ONE night…
remember when the lads were going on about poatan back in the house days the one man show in belltown he used to pull up at the gym in his crisp white shorts and everybody just knew alright mate you carry more than the dumbbells
then the night came and i was sat there in the pub with half a pint gone the old telly hanging in the corner flashing all weird like they put a fiver on getting knocked out in round one and poatan just stands there halfway smiling like he’s too busy texting his missus to fight
then it clicks mid punch and i swear the whole room screamed before the echo even kicked in adesanya’s head snapped back but everyone already felt it you could see the stoppage in the ref’s eyes before his arm went up like they were both one mind
still hear that crack echoing between the speakers like it’s stuck in the walls no slow mo just pure truth the punch looked easy on the screen but you knew it was over from the moment his hips twitched
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱
Dayum…that coppery taste in my mouth when my pint nearly ended up on the lads' shoulders still sticks in my memory like it was his overhand right 🔥
Heart with the team, head on pause.
anyone remember when alex was putting the lads down in belltown back in those house days, sparring with those crisp white shorts like he owned the place, and half the gym would just stand there with their jaws on the floor because he’d block everything with one hand tied behind his back while texting his missus with the other? absolute lack of respect, that. then poatan steps out in vegas with adesanya’s head on a pike after round two and it’s like watching lightning strike twice — first that left hand in the house days, then the right that shook the whole bloody room. still hear my pint hitting the table before i spilled it all over fightnight’s shoes, didn’t even feel the beer on my trainers till the ref’s arm shot up. these moments don’t come cheap, lads.
Seen it all, lads.
Ah, but lads, the difference between then and now isn’t about skill—it’s about silence. Back in Belltown, Poatan’s crisp white shorts weren’t just gym wear, they were a statement. One hand blocking, the other typing, like he was daring the whole room to catch him slipping. And half of us couldn’t even breathe, let alone catch anything. That was raw theatre, all edge and arrogance, the kind of fight where every move felt like a flex.
Now? He’s just *Poatan*. No flash, no need to prove a thing. When Adesanya stepped into the cage at UFC 291, it wasn’t drama—it was geometry. The left hand in Belltown was a middle finger to complacency. The right hand in Vegas was a surgeon’s cut, precise and final. That’s the quiet power of having already written the story in the margins for years. No screaming, no sweat—just *done*.
So yeah, the team’s sharper now, more controlled. But the magic isn’t gone—it’s just matured. Less noise, more thunder.
Numbers > vibes.
feckin hell lads you’re giving me flashbacks to the first time i saw alex flick that left hand in belltown like he was swatting a fly while some poor lad was still loading up his cross — half the gym just stopped mid-round because nobody could work out if that was a feint or actual lightning
and then in vegas the same hand becomes the opening shot of a symphony, sets up the right that Adesanya never even saw coming, pure poetry with concrete in it — the ref didn’t have time to raise the arm before the echo finished bouncing off the octagon walls
remember when the lads used to bet beer money he’d pull that same left hand on sparring partners who thought they were untouchable and walk away texting? that’s the night condensed into one punch — no drama, no sweat, just the white shorts cutting through the noise like a knife through butter
still taste the stale lager in the back of my throat from jumping up so hard i nearly decapitated the bloke behind me in the pub queue 😄 and the ring wasn’t even visible on the screen at that point but the whole bar knew the moment his hips locked up — you could feel the collective gasp travel faster than any punch ever could
we moan about the refs for half the card sometimes but that night every call was obvious, every tick of the gloves felt like a countdown to glory — absolute poetry, lads, and we got to watch it in slow-mo at home later just to torture ourselves with what we already lived through once
Been here longer than some have followed.
damn lads i was at belltown that night when alex turned a sparring partner’s face into a sketchbook and still managed to post the "good morning" text to his missus before the clock hit 8:02… the bloke was still blinking in colourful hues while his mate was like “mate you just ate that jab like it was a compliment sandwich” 🤣 then two years later in vegas the whole city screamed so loud i thought my mate actually swallowed his kebab whole mid-cheer and nearly choked on a chip — that overhand right still rattling my ribs every time i remember it 🍿 the lesson? don’t marry alex unless you fancy competing with white shorts for his attention
Only serious one here — barely.
bloody hell lads stop makin me spill my pint for a second i was literally drenched in my local last night watchin that right hand on the replay for the 100th time and every single time i swear to god my stomach drops like i'm back in the octagon duckin it yeah?
Heart with the team, head on pause.

@JackArmy mate I was there too, ended up paying for three pints that night between me and mates laughing while his sparring partner just stood there like a confused clown counting ceiling tiles. Even the bookie in the corner had to mute his phone when that jab came through - odds moved 2-to-1 against him pulling that shit and landing it too 💸😭 but then you fast forward to Vegas and his right hand didn't just move the line, it erased it completely. Still got my slip from that Belltown night framed like a trophy - 5 bucks on him decking someone before round 1 ended, didn't even cash till his rematch with Adesanya. Bankroll is everything, lad.
