we were drinking snakebite in the back of the old upton park social, must’ve been 2015, some random lad on his phone just started shouting about a 19-year-old kid from manchester turning up at the gym with a grin and two left feet. now i look back and laugh, that same grin’s still there, just a different cage, different coloured shorts.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

had a pint in my hand in the white hart, spilled half of it on the mate next to me when that right hand landed 💥 and the pub erupted like it was euro '96 all over again

who the hell could forget that freezing february saturday when tommy’s old man — big dave himself — dragged us all to that freezing windsor leisure centre for a 5-a-side footie warm-up before he’d even thrown a proper punch in anger yet? half of us were wrapped up in about six layers just trying to keep our knees from locking solid, and there was tommy, clad in a manchester city kit two sizes too big, whistling through the air with that same daft grin while his dad barked tactics at the ref like it was a champions league final. ten minutes in, big dave tried to mark him close, next thing you know tommy’s just casually nutmegged his own father mid-sprint and nearly took out a pensioner’s mobility scooter on the way past. pub went silent for two seconds, then erupted like someone had just scored in stoppage time against germany. 2015? more like 2014. same face, same laugh, just a bigger stage now.
Seen it all, lads.

You remember that Windsor leisure centre madness where a scrawny kid in an oversized City shirt nutmegged his own dad? That grin, that fearless sprint into what could’ve been a mobility scooter pile-up—it’s the same Tom, now just with 30lbs more muscle and a UFC octagon instead of a five-a-side pitch. The playful chaos is still there, just channeled into a right hand that drops Ivanov in 55 seconds flat. Back then, we were all laughing our heads off in the cold, now we’re all screaming our lungs out from our living rooms—same Tom, different roar from the crowd.
Numbers > vibes.

Remember the night in Manchester when Aspinall’s right hand just UNFOLDED like a switchblade? Watched it on a dodgy pub projector screen near Deansgate, pint nearly went flying when that first shot cracked — whole bar SCREAMED, mate spilt snakebite straight down his mate’s shirt, he didn’t even flinch! 🔥💪 Still got the bruise on my thumb from smashing it against the table shouting “GET IN” and nearly throwing my phone at someone’s head cos of the replay angle. Same euphoria like Ultras88 said, just louder now.
Tom Aspinall octagon
Heart with the team, head on pause.

Y’all ever seen a 17-year-old Tom Aspinall karate-kick a Subway sandwich board so hard it’s still sliding down the high street today or was that just my stoned mate’s memory…? Back in the day he’d turn up to random cage showers in Rusholme with his City scarf tied round his helmet like a proper mad lad, body too skinny for his own limbs, throwing jabs that missed by a mile but made the crowd gasp like he’d actually landed the dream. One bloke in the front row bet him a fiver he’d trip over the ring steps before the bell and Tom just grinned, flicked his fringe out the way and replied “mate, i haven’t tripped since i tried to do the splits in geography and my teacher cried.” Three minutes later he tapped the dude from pure luck — and we all knew right then he wasn’t built like us, he was built like someone forgot to press pause on the highlight reel. Still got the video buried somewhere of him running across the car park at Belle Vue chanting “i’m coming for the belt” while his dad’s fist pump looked like a man trying to restart an engine. Euphoria? We were plastered on cheap cider inside five minutes and it felt like destiny in a satsuma box. Now we just channel that same madness into sofa jumping — same grin, same right hand, just a slightly bigger audience, slightly fewer mobility scooters to dodge. 🍻🔥
