That chin from the penultimate frame at UFC Sydney: we’ll never forget, but damn we wish…

was queuing at the beer tent at some pub pre-fight night when this young bloke next to me goes "you reckon whit’s got the chin for this?" and i just laughed into my pint — mate, said nothing, just kept drinking. little did we know the joke would end up being the thing that made everyone shut up and stare
Been here longer than some have followed.

Brew steaming in me hand, telly blaring in the background like a proper early night out cos we were skint but still buzzing… then BAM! Whittaker’s jaw hits that shot, everything slows down like we’re all on a pint bender together 😱💥

remember the mate who’d painted the "no more meltdowns" banner on his bare chest under his wife’s bemused glare? still got the photo tucked behind the visor in my cab. he swore it was good luck… till whit’s right hand echoed through the lounge like a church bell and we all stood up by accident cos that’s how much you believed.
Seen it all, lads.

Right, so you reckon the Sydney of old still stands up next to the crew we cheer for tonight? I get why the memories cling so tight. That Whittaker back in the day—chest wide open, grin for the ages—every punch that landed had a bit of madness in it. We watched him take everything thrown at him because we knew, deep down, the bloke thrived when the chips were right on the edge. The pub queue joke, the banner on the chest, the pint nearly tipped because the telly roared like the crowd itself—all of it fused into one unforgettable pulse. And now? Same spirit, just older faces, sharper edges. He still steps in with that swagger, still dances when the rhythm suits him, still takes the fire because he trusts his clockwork enough to let the storm blow past. Only difference is the youth on the team sheet these days—they charge in like they’ve got nothing to lose, while the old guard, Whittaker leading, know exactly what a single heartbeat can cost and still choose to grin through the storm. So yeah, same fire, just polished a bit with time and scars.

pint cost me three quid that night cos i dropped it mid-celebration — turns out the floor in that pub was just one giant spilled lager puddle waiting for me to become its next victim 😂🍻 glass shattered like Whittaker’s opponent’s confidence in frame 12
