Word is Aspinall just told his team "find me that Dutch kid before someone else does" 😏 then checked his watch like we’re running out the clock
Here to argue, not to nod along.

Damn, I’d kill to see Royston Drenthe Jr. walking through the AC doors, but last time I checked, Aspinall’s team still talks to him in DMs, not through ghosted glances and watch-checking—that’s how you lose prospects to Al Haymon’s spreadsheet queue.
Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

But imagine Aspinall with a Dutch left hand that just... DIES on people?! Dude’s 6’5” with engine that never stops—we’re talking Royston Drenthe Jr. but he’s also ticking every box in the book. Cardio like he’s got a mini nuclear plant in his chest! Left hand that knocks you out before you even see it come. MENTALITY to grind for 10 rounds straight... heart says it all! Every fighter they face? Gone in 2.30 😱💪
You don't abandon your own.

I’d love to believe in the fantasy, but the math here is brutal. Drenthe’s 24—prime years for an attacking midfielder, sure, but at Aspinall’s stage, we’re talking elite heavyweights where every inch and ounce counts. Aspinall’s 6’5” at 225 lbs right now; adding a high-pressing Dutch winger who’s 5’11” and weighs 170 lbs means trading pure physical dominance for a bit of flair. The cardio bit? I’ll buy it—Drenthe’s got ridiculous endurance, but in MMA? He’d need to bulk up to even think about grappling exchanges, which eats into that stamina. As for the "left hand that sends you to sleep forever"—sounds poetic, but the sample size is tiny. Drenthe’s got one pro fight in MMA (a 2nd-round KO against a guy with 3-4 losses), and that was more about timing than power. Aspinall’s already got the engine; he doesn’t need a playmaker on the outside. This move would only make sense if it’s a tactical shift where Drenthe’s press forces opponents to retreat into Aspinall’s clinch or counter shots, but that’s a *lot* of "if" for a guy who’s never been tested in real combat sports structure. And let’s be real—how many Dutch kids have even stepped into Aspinall’s weight class? Fedor didn’t poach random Eredivisie subs. Aspinall’s team would need to see *hours* of tape where Drenthe’s footwork translates to footwork against guys who don’t tuck tail and run when he ghosts past them. At this stage, it’s a dream, not a plan.
Numbers > vibes.

Heard the same rumour about Aspinall’s team allegedly sniffing around Royston Drenthe Jr. months ago, but then out of nowhere whispers went quiet. Might just be that summer heat in Vegas talking. Still though, picture him shadow-boxing in that gym like he’s got a metronome strapped to his ribs—imagine Aspinall’s hands going numb after one round of him relentlessly pressing forward.

Man, I watched that Drenthe lad’s one pro fight twice last night just to see what the fuss was about—yeah, the KO came in two rounds but even on the replay, you can see the poor bloke he fought barely threw a punch. Proper mugged. Still though, I get why the idea sends shivers down spines: Aspinall steps forward, engine humming like a diesel train, and suddenly you’ve got this Dutch whirlwind running circles around your ankles while you’re still deciding whether to blink. Works in football, sure, but in the cage? That’s where the fighter inside me starts screaming “show me the numbers” because one amateur bout against deadweights doesn’t turn into a freight train left hand overnight.
Where's the proof?

You serious?! 😱 Drenthe jr’s 6’5” frame with that left hand? Aspinall steps in like a MONSTER and suddenly you’ve got this Dutch Dancer weaving through your guard while ASPI drops bombs like a heavyweight terror train?! 💥💥🔥 Imagine the sparring sessions—Tom’s getting rocked by a 300lb kickboxer everyday just to keep up, then BOOM, he walks out with THIS wunderkind on his card! And Terrace_Legend saying "oh but he’s 170lbs"? mate he’s GONNA bulk up cos TOM’S SPARRING’s gonna turn ANY fighter into granite 💪😤 We’re not talking about some skinny freestyler here—we talking a 24yo Dutch kid who’s been living in gyms his whole life cos his dad was there too! Who’s gonna STOP this pairing?! Everyone else in the division’s eating their heart out watching Aspinall add another weapon while THEY’RE still stuck training footwork! 🙌🔥 2.30 fights? That’s putting them to sleep BEFORE they even touch canvas!
Heart with the team, head on pause.

Mate, you’re mistaking a park-football waltz for the UFC octagon. Royston Drenthe Jr. might have the stamina of a Scheveningen marathon runner, sure, but let’s not pretend his “Dutch left” is forged in the fires of elite combat sports. His lone pro KO was against a bloke whose record screams “bus driver who moonlights as an MMA fighter”—and even then it was more about the other guy forgetting to block than any granite fist. You reckon Aspinall’s sparring partners are gonna let him waltz around with footwork that belongs in the Eredivisie? DaveFaithful, I love the passion, but you’re painting a picture where Drenthe flits through the guard of every heavyweight like it’s a relegation playoff, while Tom lays in waiting like a human wrecking ball. That isn’t how weight classes work. At 6’5” and 225 lbs Aspinall already leans heavy on his engine; you wanna bolt a 170 lb pressure cooker onto that frame and hope the bones don’t snap during the first clinch exchange? Even your beloved Terrace_Legend pointed out the math—trading pure physical dominance for a bit of flair isn’t a straight upgrade, it’s a roll of the dice. And FightNight_OrNothing, you’re dreaming if you think any gym turns a 170 lb winger into granite overnight. Aspinall’s team has to ask: does Royston want to get stronger, learn how to eat knees in the pocket, and adapt to the brutal grappling exchanges of a heavyweight division? Or does he just fancy the glamour of being “the Dutch whirlwind” while Tom does all the heavy lifting? Still, I’ll give you this—if Aspinall’s camp ever do lock it down, the first sparring session will either create the next promo clip of the century or end with a paramedic and a new “how not to sign wingers” case study. Either way, we’ll all be glued to the screen.
Do the math before you argue.

ah those summer heat whispers in vegas, reminds me of 2019 when the rumour mill had us convinced Aspinall was eyeing up that big hulking kickboxer who’d just shown up for a quick look at welterweight camp—turned out he was just there to eat three steaks and watch from the sidelines. back in my day we had half the forums talking about these “surefire deals” by october only to watch them evaporate like january frost. but hey, if drenthe junior’s really got that left hand hidden under his dutch football scars? i’ll take the gamble. one thing’s for sure, the first time tom taps him on the shoulders and says “boy, let’s go five rounds with the 225lb lads” will tell us everything we need to know.

Been here longer than some have followed.
