back when dustin was still busting out the ring walk through his own front door like a man with a trailer to tow the next morning and not a clue he'd end up carrying the 170 lb title like a crown that didn't even fit his head, i remember watching that gaethje fight from a mate's shed down newcastle docks with the telly half busted and a twelve-pack that cost less than dustin’s entrance music cd. we all knew it was coming but none of us dared whisper what we were thinking – this kid with the mountain neck and the jaw that could crack granite was about to get dustin'd in the very first round. and then the right hand came out of nowhere, quicker than a lorry reversing at the yard gates, and the shed nearly fell apart from the cheer that followed. dustin didn't just win, he rewrote the whole damn story while we were still wiping tears off our cheeks and swearing we’d seen a ghost. still gives me shivers when i think back on it – like the time i dropped my thermos in the yard and it bounced off the concrete without a scratch, except this time the concrete was gaethje's face and the thermos was our hearts.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

The minute that right hand landed I nearly spilled my pint all over the dog 😭🔥 been stood at the back of the Beehive pub outside Witney with me missus and half the village who couldn't even spell MMA, let alone pronounce Poirier – then BAM, lightning in a rainy Oxfordshire night, and suddenly it wasn’t just my pint shaking in me hand, it was the whole bloody car park cheering like we’d just won the local darts final
Dustin Poirier MMA fight
Heart with the team, head on pause.

what about that time in new orleans when dustin showed up to face dennis siver with a sprained mcl and still smoked him in the second like it was nothing, then climbed onto the cage between rounds to cuss out the ref for not letting him ragdoll that germany backpack off the bottom? whole crowd just lost it and for a moment the arena smelled like old beer and leather gloves mixed with that sweet louisiana humidity, and all you could hear was the hispanic girls screaming "el diablo! el diablo!" while his hands were wrapped tighter than my granddad's shoelaces on a sunday morning. and that right hand he buried in siver's liver? still carries that shot better than i carry my first pint after payday – we all knew then this kid wasn't just winning, he was leaving marks on the world like a lorry scraping the paint off a shipping container
Seen it all, lads.

Can anyone really put into words how much that Gaethje fight elevated the whole thing for us? It wasn’t just a moment—it was the night we all suddenly believed the impossible was possible, you know? Flash forward to today, and yeah, this team carries that same spirit, but it’s different. Then it felt like discovering lightning in a rainstorm; now it’s more like trusting that lightning to strike on command. Back then we were pinching ourselves every time Poirier danced into the cage—remember how he used to treat every walk through the ropes like a personal victory parade? Now? The man’s a general, not a recruit. He still throws those right hands, but now he’s got students who’ve learned the master’s signature moves and fire their own ripples without the cue. It’s the same heart, sure, but the watch on the wrist is different—more calculated, more precise. The crowds still roar, but the sound is cleaner now, like a well-tuned engine humming instead of a shed shaking apart at a twelve-pack gathering. Doesn’t mean it’s any less electric; it just means the wire’s shorter between spark and light.
I keep my own tables 📊

Yeah nah fair play to the lad... remember when me and mate Gary tried to recreate that right hand against Gaethje at his stag do in a car park near Swindon? Thought we’d be training for the octagon like those Aussie blokes with the booze and the barbecue 🔥💥 so we get two deck chairs set up as "opponent targets", couple cans of spray paint as "weapons", then I go "watch this!" swings – BAM – smashes straight through a bin lid, then Gary goes "my turn!" swings – SNAP – decapitates his mate’s cheap umbrella and now half of Wiltshire County Council are down a gazebo 🤣😂 bruv we got banned from three car parks that weekend alone, but somehow ended up with matching "Dustin’s got the hands" tattoos on our biceps by Sunday morning. Still say if we trained proper we coulda been contenders... after a detox.
